Be careful what you wish for!

So, in my last post I complained a little about the lack of snow in Utah. Well, now I take it back! I've seen more snow, and more problems because of snow, in the last three weeks than in my entire memorable life!!

For those of you don't follow our lives on Facebook, here's a brief synopsis of our travels:
On December 18th we drove through the snow to Boise. Luckily the storm didn't go more north than Salt Lake, so the roads weren't too bad after that.
The next day, we waited on our plane in the Boise airport for 1 1/2 hours, only to find out that the Spokane airport was closed and our flight was canceled due to a huge snowstorm the night before.
Meanwhile, my parents drove through that snowstorm to get to Spokane, and made it, just as we found out our flight was canceled. We were trying to get to Canada, but the weather pretty much ruined any plans we could have changed to get there, so we got on a flight later that afternoon to Portland instead. My parents turned around and drove back through a new storm to Oregon. Our flight was delayed four hours because of snow related closures in Salt Lake (where our plane was coming from) and my parents actually beat us to the Portland airport. Once we finally arrived at their house, we hunkered down for about a week, watching other people's holiday plans being shattered on the news when the Portland airport closed. Our stake even canceled church. The snow contiuned to fall, and because of heavy branches breaking onto power lines, we were one of 30-40,ooo people in Salem without power the week of Christmas. Luckily, it only lasted about 8 hours for us, because other people didn't have power for 5 days. Anyway, the snow cleared up in time for our flight to Boise and the roads were still clear on our drive home.
Needless to say, I had my white christmas, and I've seen enough snow to last me the rest of my life. If it were up to me, spring could come next week!

Despite the change in plans, we had a fabulous Christmas in Oregon, relaxing at my parents' house. Emrie did fabulous, sleeping 6-8 hours at night. She rolled over from her tummy to her back on Dec 23rd. Crazy! She's getting a lot more attentive and vocal, as well as being more mobile. She is so much fun!

New Year's Day we flew back to Boise and had a belated Christmas with the Holdens--including Steve's dad, who came from Illinois to be there. He got to see Emrie for the first time and be there for her blessing on the 4th. My parents came out to Boise for the blessing as well, and it was fun to visit with both sides of the family together.

All in all, it was a memorable vacation, and we are so thankful for supportive family and the gospel as we cherish each day with our beautiful baby girl.

Oh she is so cute! Sorry you couldn't get up to the Ranch this year! We drove because we didn't book flights early enough, but I guess it was better that way! Take care, and we will talk to you soon!
